It’s that time!! The annual gathering of the sisters and their children at the beach for ARTCAMP!
Each year previously, we have relied on a pretty awesome school summer camp in Berlin to supply the arty goodness. This year, as the older of the kids are aging beyond the limits of that camp, we thought we’d take a crack at supplying the art extravaganza ourselves. We are blessed with no shortage of talent or art degrees in our family–:)– might as well make them count!
So today was day 1– pottery. For real pottery. My youngest sister is a beautiful potter-woman. She led us in the art and craft of hand building. We will finish the pieces up tomorrow and after they are dry enough, into the firey furnace of her kiln they go. Hopefully we will get to glaze the work before we head back home.
There are berry bowls, and monsters. Coils and teapots. All beautiful lumps of clay waiting for more work tomorrow.
My sister remarked “I sure do like the hours if this camp better!”. It’s true– the kids spent most of the day working and catching up with each other. When they were hungry or needed a break, things just organically ebbed and flowed where needed. We were still sitting in her garage at 10:30 pm– flinging clay and chatting It is so nice to see them all together, to experience their creative energy all together, and to Be working alongside of them laughing and getting dirty.
Tomorrow we’ll get some beach time and move on to paper mâché I think. It’s great to be able to be spontaneous with the projects as well– we have a loose plan and supplies and we’re just following the ARTCAMP flow.
My other sweet sister arrives tomorrow with the remaining 2 cousins of the pack of 8.
More fun, more art, then.
